The Appeasement of Radhika: Radhika Santawanam
Muddupalani
Translated by Sandhya Mulchandani Penguin Classics 200 pages, 250

Muddupalani, the author of this erotic narrative poem about desire, jealously and love, was a courtesan at the court of the 18th-century Maratha king of Thanjavur, Pratapsimha. The book was banned by the British when it was republished in 1910; 100 years on, it now appears in English translation for the first time.
