Oil is a major source of unaccountable power in the world, says the London-based political philosopher Leif Wenar. He argues that authoritarian leaders and extremists whose territories contain energy resources have perpetrated massive human-rights violations while being bankrolled by consumers across the world. Wenar shows how the West can now lead a “peaceful resource revolution” by ending its dependence on fuel whose purchase benefits authoritarians.
