Kamila Shamsie

This book, the latest by the British-Pakistani novelist Kamila Shamsie, is an adaptation of the Greek playwright Sophocles’ Antigone, set in a Muslim family in the modern-day United Kingdom. The family’s three siblings all travel down staggeringly different paths—one goes to America, the other stays in London and the third disappears on a quest towards Islamic radicalism. Meanwhile, the family’s alliance with a prominent and prosperous British Muslim politician leads them all to question where their loyalties lie, especially when politics and love come into conflict.
