Eunice de Souza

Eunice de Souza’s first collection of poetry, Fix, published in 1979, introduced a lively, frank voice into Indian poetry. She has since gone to become one of her generation’s best known and most consistently outspoken poets. Her work is often spare, with many of her poems consisting of only eight to ten lines. Her latest collection, which consists of what de Souza’s fellow poet Arvind Krishna Mehrotra calls “poems to live by,” is distilled, potent and wise.
