Sisir Kumar Bose

This closely observed portrait of the Bose family of Bengal focusses on its two most famous members: the brothers and freedom fighters Subhas Chandra Bose and Sarat Chandra Bose. The author, Sisir Kumar Bose—Sarat’s son—covers the turbulent period from the mid 1920s through the 1940s, investigating and commemorating the roles his uncle and father played in India’s struggle for independence. From being an observer of the activism taking place around him, the author becomes a participant in it when, under cover of darkness, he helps his uncle escape the custody of colonial authorities in Calcutta.
