13 MAY TO 1 JULY

THE JAPAN FOUNDATION, DELHI

This exhibition of graphic posters produced in Japan in the 1980s, when the country witnessed a continuous economic boom, shows how they were employed as vehicles for both information and artistic expression. Most of the work displayed combines a spare aesthetic and the use of symmetry and strong geometric forms. A poster by Koichi Sato, for instance, depicts a bowl of tea surrounded by a fading halo of blue, conveying the calm and deliberation of a Japanese tea ceremony.
