INDIAN NEW WAVE CINEMA REVISITED (FILM)

01 August, 2015

A one-day workshop and two days of film screenings are at the core of this project to analyse a controversial period of India’s cinema history, the ‘new’ cinema of the 1970s and 1980s. The cinema of the period, inspired by literature, photography, and theatre, led to new debates about the role of the state, national history, political action, and realism. The workshop and screenings follow a year-long research project, supported by the University of Chicago’s Center in Delhi, the Cinema and Media Studies department of the University of Chicago, the Media Lab at Jadavpur University, and the website indiancine.ma.

Indian New Wave Cinema Revisited, 27 to 29 August, UChicago Center in India, DLF Capitol Point, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Delhi.
