Indrajal (Magic)

01 June, 2013

Prodip Chandra Sorcar, called the “Merchant of Vanish” after he made a packed train “vanish” in 1992 and then the Taj Mahal in 2000, is joined by his daughter and protégé Maneka to celebrate 100 years of the magic show Indrajal, which was conceived by Sorcar’s father—the legendary magician Protul Chandra Sorcar. The younger Sorcar, who candidly attributes his tricks to simple laws of physics, said in an interview with Mint: “You may call us visual scientists or the forerunners of science. Wasn’t it initially magic to fly in the sky, that later became airplanes?”

PC Sorcar Jr’s magic show, 10 May to 9 June, 6.30 pm, FICCI Auditorium, Federation House, near Mandi House, 1, Tansen Marg. For details, contact Ashish Dasgupta (99588-81494), Debashish Bhattacharyya (98101-09684)
