15 TO 16 APRIL

KHOJ INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS’ ASSOCIATION, DELHI

Khoj is a creative space in south Delhi where artists complete six-week residencies. This April, the most recent group of residents displayed their work in small individual galleries built around an open-air courtyard. The theme of the show was health, and the artists presented radically different interpretations of it: some focussed on mental states, others dealt with threats posed by environmental pollution, and others yet with new medical technologies. Perhaps the most memorable installation was one by the Polish artist Tyśka Samborska, who displayed a mannequin wearing a suit that appeared to be made completely of mould. On the surrounding walls, the artist had hung photos of someone wearing the suit and inhabiting the space around Khoj. Although the mannequin itself was in a glass case, it smelled strongly, evoking a powerfully visceral reaction that was in keeping with the exhibition’s body-oriented theme.
