PHOTOGRAPHER PRABUDDHA DASGUPTA, who would have been 56 this month, died of a heart attack in Alibaug on 12 August. Best known for his black-and-white photography, Dasgupta’s images encompassed a startling range, from vast landscapes to quiet, empty rooms and intimate portraits of women. The above image is from his series Longing, where he explored the themes of memory and experience. Longing appears like a compilation of images from dreamscapes, with vehicles, faceless, naked figures and blurred objects and spaces.

Correction: Our print edition states wrongly that the photographer would have been 59 this month. The Caravan regrets the error.
